Information on VTAC November, December, January and February offer rounds

November offer round

The University will make a small number of offers to students from non-school leaver backgrounds in the VTAC November offer round, on 15 November.

December offer round

This year VTAC applicants for our undergraduate courses who are completing their Year 12 studies in Victoria, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Northern Territory, Western Australia, or Tasmania may receive a Semester 1, 2025 offer in the VTAC December offer round, on 23 December.

Domestic IB Diploma graduates (from the May 2024 and November 2024 sittings), and domestic GCE A Level applicants who graduated in June/July 2024, may also receive a Semester 1, 2025 offer in the December offer round.

Applicants who may receive a Semester 1, 2025 intake offer in the VTAC December offer round include:

• Current Year 12 applicants who have submitted a SEAS application and are eligible for an Access Melbourne guarantee
• Current Year 12 applicants who are eligible for a selection guarantee for their preferred Melbourne course – including our Graduate Degree Packages
• Domestic applicants who have satisfied prerequisites and achieved the 2025 guaranteed ATAR for their preferred Melbourne course
• Current Year 12 applicants for our Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Fine Arts courses who have received notification that they have satisfied the talent-based additional requirements, have satisfied the English prerequisite, and are otherwise eligible for a VTAC offer
• Current Year 12 students applying for an undergraduate course that selects based on the ATAR – but does not have a guaranteed ATAR – may also receive an offer during the December offer round. In these cases, the 2024 lowest selection rank for your preferred course remains the best indicator of likelihood of you receiving an offer.

Many of our undergraduate courses have guaranteed ATARs in place to provide current Year 12 students with certainty as soon as their ATAR and subject results are released. Remember that you may still be considered for an offer even if your ATAR is below the guaranteed ATAR. For this reason, the 2024 lowest selection rank is still a useful indicator of the possible entry standard for your preferred Melbourne course.

January offer rounds

The University of Melbourne will make every effort to ensure that the academic standards required for a Semester 1, 2025 offer in the December offer round will remain consistent in the January offer rounds:

• 10 January 2025 – January round 1 domestic offers released
• 8 January 2025 – January offer round 1 international
• 13 January 2025– January offer round 2 international
• 16 January 2025 – January offer round 3 international
• 21 January 2025– January offer round 4 international
• 24 January 2025 – January offer round 5 international
• 28 January 2025 - January offer round 2 domestic

Please note that some of our courses that have a very limited number of places available – or have very competitive entry standards – may need to adjust academic standards for a January round offer, if there is a particularly large uptake of December round offers.

January offer round 2 domestic and February offer rounds

We anticipate that the University of Melbourne will make the majority of our domestic offers for the Semester 1, 2025 intake in the December offer round and January offer round 1.

We plan to utilise the VTAC January offer round 2 domestic to release offers to competitive applicants from New Zealand (see additional detail below), and to make offers to VTAC applicants who are otherwise qualified for their preferred Melbourne course but receive one element of their results too late to be considered in the January offer round1 domestic (English language test scores that arrive in mid-January, for example).

We do not expect to utilise the VTAC January offer round 2 domestic – or the subsequent February domestic offer rounds – to make a substantial number of Semester 1, 2025 offers. Some of our courses – particularly those that have limited places or very competitive entry standards – will likely fill up after the December offer round and January offer round 1.

New Zealand applicants

Domestic VTAC applicants (New Zealand citizens) who are currently completing the New Zealand NCEA, or Cambridge A Levels in New Zealand, will be considered ahead of the VTAC January offer round 2 domestic, with offers made in this round to be released on 28 January 2025. Rest assured that we understand your results arrive a little later than those of Australian Year 12 applicants. Each year the University of Melbourne reserves a small number of places in our undergraduate courses for talented applicants from New Zealand.
