  • ATARs will be released on Thursday 11 December 2025
  • Change of Preference Expo at our Parkville campus will be held on Friday 12 December, 10am-2pm
  • Change of preference period closes Saturday 13 December, 12pm (AEDT) for the December offer round*, Tuesday 23 December 2025
  • Change of preference period closes Tuesday 23 December 2025, 8pm (AEDT) for the January offer round 1, Tuesday 13 January 2026.

IB

  • Notional ATARs will be released (for the November sitting) on Thursday 18 December
  • Change of Preference Expo at our Parkville campus will be held on Friday 12 December, 10am-2pm
  • Change of preference period closes for both May and November sittings on Thursday 18 December, 4pm (AEDT) for the December offer round*, Tuesday 23 December 2025. This is your main offer round
  • Change of preference period closes Tuesday 23 December 2025, 8pm (AEDT) for the January offer round 1, Tuesday 13 January 2026.

Murrup Barak is the University’s dedicated centre for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, providing you with culturally safe, holistic support to help you thrive academically and personally during your studies.

Key services include:

  • Dedicated Student Success Team with Indigenous Student Success Officers who provide tailored advice and guidance on academic, personal, and cultural matters
  • Indigenous Tutorial Access Scheme which offers free one-on-one tutoring to support your coursework and exam preparation
  • Orientation, transition programs and regular community events to help you settle in, connect with peers, and build networks
  • Community and cultural spaces, with access to study rooms, computer labs, printing services, and an Indigenous Student Common Room
  • Financial and practical support for help with ABSTUDY, housing options, and emergency financial assistance
  • Specialist programs and support for undertaking postgraduate study for Indigenous graduate students, including networking and professional development opportunities.

Key information for students completing the NCEA, International Baccalaureate (IB) or Cambridge A Levels in New Zealand.

NCEA/CIE

  • Results will be released 15 January 2026
  • The first offer round you'll be eligible to participate in is January offer round 2 on 27 January 2026. Your change of preference period will close at 2pm (AEDT) 14 January 2026. View the selection guide for NCEA results if you need assistance in converting your results to minimum eligibility requirements for your course.

IB

  • Notional ATARs will be released (for the November sitting) on Thursday 18 December

If you are living and went to a secondary school in New Zealand are hold Australian or New Zealand citizenship you are a domestic student.

You are considered a domestic student when applying to study at the University of Melbourne if you are:

  • A New Zealand citizen
  • An Australian citizen
  • An Australian permanent resident
  • Holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa.

New Zealand permanent residents and international students in New Zealand are considered international students when applying to study in Australia and must apply direct to the University of Melbourne. You are subject to the University’s international student tuition fee schedule at year of commencement.

NCEA

You must have completed at least 80 credits at Level 3.

To satisfy prerequisites (including English) you’ll need to complete at least 18 Level 3 credits in the subject with at least 10 credits achieved with merit or above.

The University of Melbourne calculates your average in your best 80 Level 3 credits by assigning the following values:

  • 5 for each excellent credit
  • 3.5 for each merit credit
  • 2.5 for each achieved credit

The total of all these is then divided by 400 (the maximum possible) to get your overall score.

IB

Domestic and international International Baccalaureate (IB) applicants who studied in New Zealand will receive a notional ATAR. VTAC provides information on how IB scores are converted into a notional ATAR conversion.

Students without Australian or NZ citizenship are considered international applicants and will have applied directly to the University, with the exception of IB Diploma these international students may apply through VTAC.

International IB students are assessed based on their IB score and will not receive a notional ATAR. International applicants can view guaranteed entry scores for the IB.

Cambridge A Levels

A minimum of three A Levels is required, and a grade of at least C is required in prerequisite subjects unless otherwise specified.

Approved GCE AS and A Level English subjects are: General Paper, General Studies, English Language and Literature, English Literature, English Language. A grade of at least C is required to meet the University’s English language requirements.

Note that Cambridge A Levels completed in New Zealand are assessed in the same way as the GCE A Levels.

If you submitted an equity schemes application (deadline was 13 October 2025) alongside your course preferences in VTAC and preference the University of Melbourne appropriately, you will be considered for our Access Melbourne entry scheme.

Through Access Melbourne you will be given special consideration for your course application, benefiting from adjusted entry scores based on the impact your personal circumstances had on your education.

Students studying in New Zealand are eligible to apply for consideration against the following Access Melbourne circumstances: 
* Difficult circumstances 
* Disability or medical condition 
* First in family 
* Disadvantaged financial background.

All domestic students enroll in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) where the majority of your fees are subsidised by the Australian Government.

Only Australian citizens can access the HECS-HELP loan scheme to defer their student contribution fee component. Australian permanent residents and New Zealand citizens need to be in a position to self-fund their domestic student contribution component when enrolled in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP).

If you have provided your final results to VTAC by Friday 5 December 2025, 5pm (AEDT) and paid your application fee on time, you’ll be eligible for the December offer round.
