Step 2 - Which research topic?
You are required to liaise and gain support of a potential supervisor before submitting an online application. You will work under the guidance of at least two supervisors and an advisory committee throughout the duration of your research degree.
You can find a list of projects in our Research Project Database or below:
Each research project has a research group leader that you may contact to request support for your application.
If you wish to pursue an area of research that is not defined in the list of current research projects, you can search for academics in your intended research area by using our Find an Expert directory.
Step 3 - When should I apply?
Graduate Research Applications may be lodged at any time throughout the calendar year.
You will automatically be considered for the Graduate Research Scholarships. Only applications for admission that are complete and received by the closing dates will be considered for a Graduate Research Scholarship in that round.
Most scholarships are awarded in the first two rounds. You are strongly encouraged to submit your application before 31 October.
Step 4 – Gather your documents
Ensure you have following documentation ready before you submit your application:

Step 5 – Submit an online application
Submit your online application below
To avoid delays in the assessment of your application, please ensure you follow the online application instructions carefully and upload all the required documents. Assessment of your application will only commence once you have provided all required documents.
Please allow 4-12 weeks for your application to be processed. You will be notified of the outcome via email. If you are offered a place at the University of Melbourne, your letter of offer will explain the enrolment process.
Step 6 – Accepting your offer and enrolling
If your application is successful, you will receive an offer letter by email.
To accept your course and scholarship offer, follow the instructions in your offer letter.
The course offer letter you receive will contain instructions on enrolling into your course. If you receive a conditional offer for a course, you must satisfy the offer conditions before you can enrol.
You must complete your enrolment and a local induction before you can commence your research. All academic units (department, school, institute or centre) run local inductions and graduate researchers are required to attend a local induction. Please liaise with your supervisor about your proposed start date and induction.
All graduate researchers are expected to attend a University Orientation in their first year of enrolment. Please refer to Melbourne CSHE for registration dates.
