Admission criteria
To be considered for entry into this course, you must:
- Have completed an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited four-year undergraduate sequence in psychology within the last 10 years (This is a three-year undergraduate degree with a major in psychology, plus a fourth year honours specialisation in psychology, or equivalent), within which you achieved a weighted average mark (WAM) of at least 75% (or University of Melbourne equivalent), AND
- Provide a 500-word personal statement outlining your interest in and skills relevant to this course, AND
- Provide two academic referee reports, submitted online, AND
- If shortlisted, attend an interview.

About selection
When assessing applications, the Selection Committee will consider your previous studies and academic performance.
The Selection Committee may request additional information to clarify any aspect of an application, according to the University’s Academic Board rules regarding selection instruments.
Meeting the published entry requirements for this course does not guarantee selection.
The Selection Committee will consider your academic referee reports. If your application is shortlisted, the Selection Committee will invite you to and assess you on your interview.
Additional information
If you have an overseas qualification, you must complete an Australian Psychological Society (APS) comparability assessment with your application to confirm your eligibility for Associate Membership. The current APS comparability assessment fee is AUD$921.00 and it takes approximately eight weeks to receive an outcome.
If your application is successful, upon enrolment in this course you must apply for provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (if not currently registered) and undertake a Working with Children Check.
Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM)
We encourage domestic students to explore eligibility for Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM). GAM offers an opportunity for admission to this course even if your tertiary marks are below the standard entry requirements. GAM applicants may also be considered for financial bursaries and Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) where available.
GAM categories include coming from a rural area, being an Indigenous Australian, experiencing financial hardship or personal difficulties, having refugee status, or living with a disability or medical condition. In assessing applications, we look to balance opportunity and your capacity to succeed.
