The agricultural industry today is less about sowing seeds and more about science: logistics, engineering, robotics and genetics. Modern farming is a cutting-edge, high-tech industry. At the University of Melbourne we even have our own robotic dairy.
More than helping to provide food on our tables, agriculture is about creating an environmentally sustainable future - and this major will set you up to make such a contribution.
You could use your biology and chemistry knowledge to develop food and fibre products that will be sustainable in our changing environment, or put your mathematics and statistics skills to use in managing livestock and grazing patterns.
Within the major, you can choose to specialise in Animal Production, Agricultural Science or Crop Science. You can also choose to integrate this major with breadth studies in areas such as economics, business, social sciences and natural resource management.
Studies in this discipline are also available via the Bachelor of Agriculture.
