Program options

We offer both an Exchange or Study Abroad program for students who want to study at Melbourne for one or two semesters.

With both, you can study away from your home institution for up to a year undertaking undergraduate or graduate studies. Graduate researchers can also apply to undertake research at Melbourne, as part of their home degree.

There are, however, some important program differences you need to be aware of before applying. This will determine what you can apply for, how fees are paid, and what you need to do to earn credit towards your degree when you return home.

Our Exchange program

You're eligible for our inbound exchange program if you've been nominated for exchange by your home institution that's a University of Melbourne exchange partner. Your home institution's exchange team can help you prepare your application.

Maximise your time at Melbourne by exploring new areas of study including Australia-based subjects, or disciplines not available at your home institution.

You'll need to meet minimum entry requirements to be approved by Melbourne. You also need to apply by our exchange program application due dates.

Under the exchange program, you'll remain enrolled and continue to pay tuition fees to your home institution. Your home institution's exchange team can advise how to arrange credit towards your home degree for your studies at Melbourne.

There may be other costs, including health insurance as required by the Australian government, which you will need to cover. The exchange team at your home institution can provide further details.
