Admission criteria
To be considered for entry into this course, you must have completed:
- An undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in a related discipline, OR
- The equivalent of six years of documented professional practice in the creative arts industry.
You must also submit:
- An artistic statement, AND
- A curriculum vitae (CV), AND
- Three referees.
Disciplines related to this course include performing arts, music, visual arts, film, dance, digital arts, cultural studies, or areas within the design sector.
English language requirements

If you need to undertake an English language test, you must meet one of the scores* below:

About selection
When assessing applications, the Selection Committee will consider your previous studies and academic performance.
The Selection Committee may request additional information to clarify any aspect of an application, according to the University’s Academic Board rules regarding selection instruments.
Meeting the published entry requirements for this course does not guarantee selection.
The Selection Committee will also consider your artistic statement, and if relevant to your application, your professional practice.
Your artistic statement should:
- Be no more than 1,000 words, AND
- Address what you wish to gain from your training period and your artistic and career aspirations, AND
- Detail your major points of interest in dramaturgy, AND
- Indicate what sort of questions you wish to explore about your own practice during this course.
If your application is shortlisted, you will be required to attend an interview in which you will discuss your creative practice and suitability for this course, upon which your application will also be assessed.
Additional information
Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM)
We encourage domestic students to explore eligibility for Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM). GAM offers an opportunity for admission to this course even if your tertiary marks are below the standard entry requirements. GAM applicants may also be considered for financial bursaries and Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) where available.
GAM categories include coming from a rural area, being an Indigenous Australian, experiencing financial hardship or personal difficulties, having refugee status, or living with a disability or medical condition. In assessing applications, we look to balance opportunity and your capacity to succeed.
Advanced Standing
If you hold an honours degree in a related discipline with a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least H2B (70%) (or equivalent) across the honours year, you may be eligible for up to 100 points of credit.
