Overview

Domestic applicants must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident, or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa.

Application closing dates

Semester 1 (Commences February):
Timely applications: 30 November

Semester 2  (Commences July):
Timely applications: 31 May

Please note: Late applications may be considered.

The majority of Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) are allocated in the timely application round. Please apply by the timely application date to ensure you have the best chance to obtain a CSP.

Processing time

The indicative turnaround timeframe for application assessment is between 4–8 weeks from the time you submit all supporting documentation.

Supporting documents for your application

  • Evidence of meeting the University’s English Language Requirements.
  • Transcripts for all university level study attempted or completed outside the University of Melbourne, including an explanation of the grading system used.
  • If the documents are not in English, they must be accompanied by an official certified English translation.
  • If currently studying, provide your results to date including enrolled subjects. You can submit your final transcript and completion statement once available.
  • Completion statements or graduation certificates (where applicable).
  • A personal statement of less than 500 words.
  • If you intend to apply for Graduate Access Melbourne you may need to provide supporting evidence with your course application.

Information to include in your Personal Statement

Your application for the Master of Urban Planning must include a personal statement outlining why you wish to be considered for the course. Your personal statement should be no more than 500 words and should address the following three points:

1. the study and/or work experience that motivates your decision to apply for the Master of Urban Planning.

2. A response to one of the following questions:

a. What is the biggest challenge facing cities and why?

b. What does ‘good’ planning mean to you?

c. What is the role of planning in shaping future cities?

3. Tell us about a book you have read that has influenced the way you see the world, briefly outlining its significance.

Graduate Access Melbourne
