Undergraduate applications

Steps on how to apply for the Elite Athletes and Artistic Performers Entry Scheme.

  1. Apply for courses with VTAC

First you need to select your undergraduate course preferences and apply via the Victorian Tertiary Admission Centre (VTAC) by their application deadlines.

    Apply via VTAC

  2. Submit an online application

Once you've submitted your course application via VTAC, you can apply online directly to the University for our Elite Athlete and Artistic Performers Entry Scheme.

In your Elite Entry Scheme application you'll need to provide a verification letter from the relevant recognised organisation (for example, a state or national sporting organisation, a professional player’s association, etc).

If you need to edit your application or update your verification letter after you have submitted your online application, please email undergrad-admissions@unimelb.edu.au

For athletes currently in Year 12

Elite athletes who are confirmed as eligible for consideration under the Elite Entry Scheme will be guaranteed entry to the University of Melbourne in the Semester 1, 2024 intake if they are currently in Year 12 and:

    • Complete their VCE (or equivalent qualification) in 2023, and
    • Satisfy all course prerequisites, and
    • Meet the following 2024 guaranteed Elite Entry Scheme ATAR (or notional ATAR).
    • Undergraduate course*2024 guaranteed ATAR – Elite Entry Scheme~^
      Bachelor of Agriculture 68.00
      Bachelor of Arts 85.00
      Bachelor of Biomedicine 94.00
      Bachelor of Commerce 91.00
      Bachelor of Design 85.00
      Bachelor of Science 85.00

    * Not all undergraduate courses set guaranteed ATARs – some because selection is based on a range of criteria, and others because of the small number of places available in the course.

~ The guaranteed Elite Entry Scheme ATARs are not applicable to the Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholarship or to our Graduate Degree Packages.

^ To retain eligibility for the guaranteed ATARs, Elite Entry Scheme applicants must enrol at the University of Melbourne immediately in the year following Year 12, or be granted an approved deferral by the University. The guaranteed ATARs are available for mid-year entry in the year following Year 12 studies as long as no further study – at either at secondary or tertiary level – has been undertaken in the interim.

Current Year 12 applicants (only) who submit an Elite Entry Scheme application by 5pm 28 September 2023 may be eligible to receive a conditional offer for the upcoming Semester 1, 2024 intake.

    • Conditional offer letters will be issued to current Year 12 applicants during early October 2023, where applicants are confirmed as eligible for Elite Scheme consideration.
    • Note that a course application (submitted and paid for via VTAC) is still required.

The final due date for Semester 1, 2024 Elite Entry Scheme applications is the VTAC very late application closing date –Friday 1 December 2023 (5pm).

  3. For eligible athletes applying for a MU sports scholarship

Eligible athletes can also apply to Melbourne’s Elite Athlete Program for sports scholarships and support.
