Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
If you have other questions, explore our full set of FAQs for international students, or contact us using the information at the bottom of this page.
Applications for the next available intake are processed within six weeks if all documents are included in the initial application. If you’re not able to submit all your documents with your initial application, assessment of that application may be delayed.
Entry points reflect the amount of credit points you need to graduate from your program.
Most of our masters degrees in media and communications offer three entry points (program lengths):
- 200 points (2 years studying full-time), for students with no or minimal prior knowledge of the discipline area
- 150 points (1.5 years studying full-time) and 100 points (1 year studying full-time), for students with previous relevant study and/or work experience.
Apply for the program you think you’re eligible for. If you apply for a shorter program but aren’t successful, you’ll be offered the next-shortest program for which you’re eligible.
Our Bachelor of Arts program requires the successful completion of 300 credit points (3 years studying full-time). It does not offer additional entry points.
All students are supported throughout the internship process by our Work Integrated Learning and Career teams. As a student, you can choose to take an internship required by your course either:
- Across a semester (1-2 days a week)
- Over a summer or winter break (5 days a week).
We encourage you to approach prospective hosts and enquire about internship opportunities. At times, the Faculty also receives positions and projects from industry partners, and we advertise these to enrolled students.
Our students have interned at a range of national and international organisations, including:
- Australian Broadcasting Corporation
- Coca-Cola
- Edelman
- New York Times
- Penguin Random House
- The Guardian
- The United Nations
- Universal Pictures.
You can choose between three options as part of most of our masters degrees in marketing and communication:
- A minor thesis
- An internship
- A coursework-only degree.
If you’re interested in pursuing a PhD, you will need to do a minor thesis. If you’re looking to go straight into employment after your degree, students in your situation usually choose the internship or coursework-only option.
Your tuition fees are based on the course you choose and your study load. You can find out more about your indicative course fees on our fees and payments webpage.
As an international student, you can choose to pay your tuition fees upfront or in instalments. If you choose to pay in instalments, you can find the due dates listed on your statement of liability.
We have one of the most generous scholarship programs in Australia. You can explore our variety of scholarships on our scholarships webpage.
We encourage you to complete a language test before applying, but we know this isn't always possible.
If you haven’t yet completed an English test but meet the other requirements for your course, you may receive a conditional offer. You will then need to successfully complete an English test to receive an unconditional letter of offer, which you need for your visa and to enrol in subjects.
