Domestic student Change

You're considered a domestic student if you're an Australian or New Zealand citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or have a permanent humanitarian visa. This applies even if you're studying abroad or have dual Australian citizenship.

Admission criteria

To be considered for entry into this course, you must:

Have completed a bachelor degree (AQF7) or equivalent in a cognate (relevant) discipline.

Cognate (relevant) disciplines include: A major in finance, or a minor sequence or specialisation in finance.

And
Have completed below prerequisite subject(s):

Corporate Finance (FNCE20005) or equivalent
Investments (FNCE30001) or equivalent
Derivatives Securities (FNCE30007) or equivalent.

Where degree levels are referenced, levels align with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Applications are assessed against these standards.

Don't meet the prerequisite subject requirements?

You may have the option to enrol in specific single subjects through the University's Community Access Program, even if you are not enrolled in a course. All applicants to the University of Melbourne must satisfy the English language requirements. Meeting the minimum entry requirements for this course does not guarantee selection.

Additional information

If you have satisfied all the requirements for a Master of Finance offer, except for the Derivative Securities subject, you may be made an offer conditional upon completing an online intensive version of this subject prior to commencement of the course. Learn more about bridging subjects.
If you do not have a prior degree majoring in finance you are excluded from entry to this degree. If you meet the entry requirements, you are encouraged to consider the Master of Management (Finance).
If you discontinue from the Master of Finance but have successfully completed 100 points of this course including completion of the four compulsory subjects, you will be eligible to receive the Graduate Diploma in Finance as an exit award.
Graduate Access Melbourne applications will be considered for this course.

Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM)

We encourage domestic students to explore eligibility for Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM). GAM offers an opportunity for admission to this course even if your tertiary marks are below the standard entry requirements. GAM applicants may also be considered for financial bursaries and Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) where available.
