For some scholarships you’ll be automatically considered when you apply to study at Melbourne based on your academic results or your equity schemes and scholarship application in VTAC (submit this alongside your course preferences). For others, you'll need to submit an application which may include a personal statement or supporting documents. Check the ‘Application process’ section of the scholarship that you are interested in on the scholarships website.
Both residential colleges and University Accommodation provide regular academic and social opportunities to help you settle in to Melbourne life. Residential colleges typically offer dormitory style accommodation and catered meals, while University Accommodation offers a wider range of apartment styles and an independent living experience. You can book an accommodation tour to find the right fit for you.
Residential college applications typically open around the April preceding the year you’ll start your undergraduate studies, while University Accommodation opens in August. This means you’ll be applying for accommodation before you submit your course preferences and receive your ATAR. Places can be competitive, so it is recommended you apply early.
Breadth subjects are distinctive to the Melbourne curriculum and give you the flexibility to branch out in your studies. By studying subjects outside of your main study area, you can explore your passions while building an adaptable skillset. For example, if you are studying a Bachelor of Science you can take a breadth subject from the Faculty of Business and Economics. Whereas elective subjects are aligned to your chosen major and degree.
