What you will learn
As a student of this course, you will:
Examine core pathophysiological concepts
Explore the pathologic basis of disease and gain the knowledge and skills required to prioritise patient care in your specialty area of practice based on scientific principles.
Develop your critical thinking skills in complex clinical situations
With a focus on emergency stabilisation of sick and/or preterm neonates and care of neonates requiring ongoing care in special care nurseries, you will extend your critical thinking ability in complex clinical situations.
Understand the underpinning theory of neonatal care and apply it to practice
Communicate an in-depth understanding of the theory underpinning specialty neonatal practice. Develop advanced problem-solving skills needed for delivery and evaluation of neonatal care as a specialty practice nurse or midwife.
Course structure
The Specialist Certificate in Neonatal Care is a 25-point program, designed to be undertaken part-time over two terms. You must complete:
- Two online subjects, each worth 12.5 points
Workload
On average, it is estimated that students will be required to allocate 15-19 hours per week for study time for each subject. However, the time commitment required can vary based on individual task management and planning skills, familiarity with the material, reading style and speed.
