Film and Television

Overview

For entry into the specialisation, all applicants must meet the standard eligibility for the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Degree with Honours), in addition to the requirements below.

Proposal and Portfolio

Applicants interested in Animation and/or Screenwriting apply to the Film and Television specialisation.

Entry to the Film and Television major is based on a written proposal, portfolio, and an interview for shortlisted applicants only. Applicants will be required to complete the requirements below. Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an online interview as the final component of the application process.

Written Proposal

You should prepare and submit:

  • a statement of 700-1000 words outlining the proposed research and a summary of relevant experience.
Portfolio

Your portfolio should consist of:

  • a sample of your most recent creative work that supports your application and proposal.

You may upload up to 30 minutes of material. Whole works are preferable to showreels. If your video file exceeds 250MB, you must upload it to a video platform such as YouTube or Vimeo and submit the URL link. Please do not password-protect your video/s.

How will I be assessed?

Your written proposal will be assessed against the following criteria by the selection panel:

  • relevance and currency of topic
  • availability of relevant resources
  • availability of relevant supervision

Your portfolio will be assessed against the following criteria by the selection panel:

  • demonstrated originality in screenwork/writing
  • requisite level of skill
  • track record and experience in chosen screen field

In the interview, shortlisted applicants will be assessed against the following criteria by the selection panel:

  • ability to convey and explain proposal
  • ability to engage in discussion of ideas in relation to film and television
  • clear commitment to undertaking the research and practice work

Please note that all applicants will be ranked based on the above criteria, up to the capacity of places within the course.

Conditions of Enrolment

Successful applicants must meet the following conditions before commencing the course:

First Aid certification

Obtain a “Provide First Aid (HLTAID003)” certificate that will remain valid for the duration of your course.

Terms and conditions

As part of your supplementary application submission, you will be required to read and accept the Terms and Conditions on which the offer of a place is made.

Interview

Shortlisted applicants are required to attend an interview as the final component of the application process. During the interview, panel members will assess your suitability for Honours, and you will be asked to discuss your proposal in further detail. The interview will run for approximately 30 minutes and will be conducted online via Zoom Web Conferencing.

Shortlisted applicants should prepare to discuss:
  • their proposal in further detail
  • interests, expectations, and motivations for undertaking the course
