Overview
Construction mangers make buildings happen. They coordinate the people, money, material and machinery that turn a design project on paper into a structure people use. From homes and schools to hospitals and transport projects, construction professionals work together to turn designs into safe, functional places that people use every day.
In the Construction major, students develop practical skills through industry-focused projects, case studies, and site visits. They learn how buildings carry loads, how construction materials perform, and how to read plans and specifications. They also explore project planning, budgeting, contracts, procurement, risk management, workplace health and safety, and the regulations that guide construction projects in Australia.
The major is built around real-world projects. You’ll work through case studies of buildings and visit active sites across Melbourne and engage with industry professionals from the construction industry.
Careers and Further Study
The Construction major prepares students for careers where they will coordinate people, materials, equipment, time and budgets, provide advice and help to deliver successful projects from planning through to completion. Also, graduates ideally are prepared to continue with further studies in the accredited Master of Construction Management.
