Developing a responsive and highly skilled care and support workforce is crucial to meeting the current and future needs of people with disabilities.
This online course is designed for NDIS-registered behaviour support practitioners or other allied health professionals who want to broaden their knowledge of positive behaviour support approaches. Its development has been supported by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH) Victoria.
Taught by leading experts, this course provides essential practitioner training that's aligned to capability skills outlined within the NDIS Positive Behavior Support Capability Framework.
Examine core factors that contribute to behaviours of concern
Broaden your understanding of behaviours of concern as a social construct and their underlying factors. Explore the biopsychosocial model for key insights into what shapes these behaviours and develop the analytical skills needed to discern when intervention is necessary.
Delve deeper into the PBS Capability Framework
Gain a valuable overview of positive behaviour support and understand its context within the human rights framework. Learn to implement contemporary positive behaviour support approaches for people with disabilities and identify ways the PBS Capability Framework can be used to monitor and promote human rights, quality of life, and capable environments.
Analyse fundamental concepts and theories for addressing behaviours of concern
Develop a deeper understanding of social constructs like quality of life, wellbeing, and their relationship to behaviours of concern and positive behaviour support. Examine the capable environments concept and the roles played by different aspects of the social, physical, and organisational environment in preventing behaviours of concern.
Gain valuable practical skills you can apply to your career
Apply your new knowledge to an evidence-based case study that draws on the positive behaviour support framework and prioritises human rights, quality of life, and the creation of capable environments to improve the support offered to individuals with disabilities.
