Course structure
Overview
Taught by a multidisciplinary team of experts and aligned closely with industry, you’ll gain a solid understanding of digital engineering, and a range of technical skills, soft skills, and practices that will help you forge a successful career in the built environment.
You’ll learn to use digital methods during asset creation, maintenance and operations, including sensing and the Internet of Things, capturing facilities by multisource imaging techniques, building information modelling, and information visualisation. You’ll also become equipped in digital twins, IoT understanding data quality, and digital skills in both theoretical and applied forms.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate an advanced theoretical understanding and knowledge of digital engineering, including Building Information Modelling (BIM), sensor systems and Internet of Things (IoT), reality capture and information visualisation
- Critically analyse and evaluate digital engineering alternatives for addressing complex problems in architecture, engineering, construction, infrastructure and facilities management
- Generate digital engineering solutions to improve and transform industry practices
- Communicate and transfer digital engineering knowledge to others in the industry
- Demonstrate autonomy and responsibility in adapting digital engineering solutions.
Course structure
The Graduate Certificate in Digital Engineering is a 50-point program consisting of four core 12.5 point subjects. It normally takes two semesters of part‐time study.
- Sensor Systems 1 (dual delivery)
- Advanced Imaging (dual delivery)
- Building Information Modelling (wholly online)
- Information Visualisation (dual delivery)
You can take the course completely online, or choose to take some subjects in person, as several are also delivered on campus (in dual delivery mode).
The course is taught in English and is located at Level 8 of the Australian Qualifications Framework.
Workload
Your time commitment is 400 hours per semester (four months).
